16th May 2019

It feels like this trip has been years in the making; considering Asa bought the bus last June and we’ve been planning my move since he proposed in Dec 2017, it almost has.

Today was long, in a really good way. We did the last items on our prep list which for me, consisted of taking whatever food I could from Barbara’s fridge and fitting it in ours! Thanks Barbs for all the things. Once Asa had refilled our water tank and we said our final goodbyes we headed out from the homeplace on our travels! After almost 7 hours driving in the bus, we found the perfect spot for our first night.

Off we go!

We’re going to miss having the creature comforts of an actual house (infinite water, large fridges and a normal toilet) but we were absolutely ready for this trip to begin. Technically, this is our honeymoon after all!

The Homeplace

Our first planned destination is St Petersberg, Tampa to visit Connor and Rebeca this weekend – we love these guys who we’ve had many adventures with over the last few years. We made our way from Milton (Florida) east and drove through the Apalachicola National Forest (what a cool name!) – absolutely beautiful scenery and empty roads, much to Asa’s delight, until we hit the Gulf.

A winding drive hugging the coastline was made even more gorgeous by the setting sun. We have found an old boat launch strip that probably washed away in hurricane Michael which give us uninterrupted views of the sea and the sunset.

We celebrated our first successful day with Moet (thanks Jack) with our toes in the water – this seems to be a theme of ours…..

We’d also like to finally introduce you to our bus, Brucie The Longbus – thank you to all of the name suggestions from our celebration in England last year. We chose ‘The Longbus’ from these to reflect Asa’s last great trip on his bike (his blog was called ‘The Longbike’) and to pay tribute to Bruce Bogtrotter who taught us that with a little encouragement in the face of adversity, anyone can eat a whole chocolate cake.

Hopefully a good nights sleep is awaiting, already can’t wait for my cup of tea in the morning! Bye for now. H x
