28th May 2019

We had an early start this morning to make sure we left before the parking rules were back in play after the holiday weekend. We had the perfect place to park and stay at the Visitor Centre downtown. Usually, you would pay for parking and no RVs can park overnight however, all bets are off for Memorial Day… #winning!

This meant we were able to stay both Sunday and Monday in Savannah; an easy walk or bike from the historical downtown next to the river, which was beautiful. We stayed in Savannah back in 2017 on our 2-week tour of the south east and really enjoyed it; it was great to come back and spend a bit more time exploring the city.

The heat was horrendous. I could barely stand it. My body is not at all used to the heat and humidity here. It hit 100°F (38°C) which along with the humidity made me one unhappy Hannah. Sadly I’m almost used to being constantly sweaty….. Even if I don’t enjoy it.

I’ve probably only worn 20% of the clothes that I bought because it is too hot for anything else. Even my denim shorts are too heavy for this heat! I never thought I’d reference this lady in our blog but thank-you Kim Kardashian for making it fashionable to wear cycle shorts, all the time.

Asa grew up in Northwest Florida, with no air conditioning; he also built Brucie all the way through last summer, with no AC so he is used to the heat and all that comes with a Florida summer. Thankfully, he’s spent enough time in England to know what I grew up with and is very conscious how much it impacts on my happiness (not like I’d let him forget anyway!). With this in mind, Asa took my trusty box fan (that follows me around the bus), and made a system so that we could attach it to the roof vent in the bedroom.

The second night in Savannah was great because of this, even if it wasn’t really cold air, just the movement of it right over the bed was amazing. Quality of life improved by a mile!

A bright and early start at 6am meant we saw our first sunrise of the trip, and it was a beauty! We found a spot by a bridge for breakfast, tea and coffee before heading on up US 17 to see where the day took us!
